Rarer in Australia than either the M5 or the 540LE, I present to you my 1989 Alpina B10 3.5
This car has incredible history. Normally, I keep receipts and paperwork in a 3 ring binder. This is the only car I have ever owned that has needed a 2nd binder added there is so much. Car Magazine articles, BMW brochures, Alpina brochures, as well as service records, invoices, and most importantly, direct correspondence with Bavarian Motorsport Australia on the build. This is car #11 of the Australian built cars, and #11 appears in the bottom right corner of the instrument cluster.
Originally AU delivered as a 525 manual back in 1989, the car underwent a fully documented conversion to the car it is today. This included bespoke Alpina Aero, Wheels, Suspension, interior goodies like gear knob and floor mats, etc, and of course the "Alpina Factory Assembled BMW 3.5 Engine". Special extra equipment included a 3.91 differential. This customer ticked every box. The conversion cost was $40,500...on top of the original car cost!
I bought the car in 2017 and I believe I am the 3rd owner, having bought the car out of QLD, who bought from the original owner.
As expected, the car is a pleasure to drive and always get 2nd and 3rd looks from passers by. The Delphin Grey paint is one of BMW's finest of the era and the interior is comfortable yet sporty. The car rides firmly but not harshly, and the motor is happy to spin up and excite you, or just quietly go about its business if you'd prefer less drama.
The car comes with 2 binders of receipts, documentation, etc. as well as an Alpina Leather wallet containing the BWW owner's manual and various books, including the stamped service book.
Recently serviced with fresh fluids in April of this year and a new fuel pump, the car is ready to go to its next custodian.
