In 1988 Tom Walkinshaw's HSV were producing the Commodore VL SS Group A in Australia. 750 of these were made in Panorama Blue. They were known as the Walkinshaw. They featured a 180Kw 5 litre V8. At the same time TWR headquarters in Oxford UK were producing the Jaguar XJRs to commemorate Jaguars victory in the 1988 Le Mans. They featured the 5.3 litre V12 engine producing about 200Kw. The Jaguar had an automatic gearbox and weighed about 1800 Kg to the Commodores 1400Kg so the Commodore was faster but the Jag drove and handled better. All up there were about 800 XJRs's produced between 1988 and 1993.
This Le Mans Celebration Jaguar XJRs is number 77 of 100 manufactured by TWR in 1988. The first 100 XJRs's were all painted in Tungsten Metalic with Doeskin leather seats piped in grey. They were all sold in the UK originally at specific Jaguar dealers. This car was imported into Western Australia in 2010 and underwent extensive refurbishment prior to registration in February 2020. It has been kept to specification including original fitment Pirelli P600 tyres on the standard 15 inch Speedline wheels. The interior is near to perfect with some patina on the drivers seat and a small cut on the rear squab. The roof lining has been replaced and the carpets are original and unmarked. The car has travelled 86602 miles and the engine and transmission are in fine condition. Everything works as it should and the car drives very well. Since 2020 the car has been used as a club vehicle under concessional registration. Although the overall appearance of the car is good, the repaint that occurred in 2019 has not held up well. There is some checking of the clear lacquer topcoat on horizontal surfaces and there are chips on door edges and bumpers. Recently the fuel hoses, filters and ferrules have been replaced. The dual coils have been replaced with a single low impedance coil along with a new distributor to ignition amplifier pulse lead. New oil pressure sender has been fitted and the rear inboard brakes have been completely refurbished.
