The Jaguar XJ40 arrived in showrooms in late 1987 and marked a major step forward for Jaguar, introducing the brand’s new generation alloy six-cylinder engine that would remain in production until the arrival of the V8 models. Both the XJ40 and later X300 series have proven themselves to be durable, reliable and economical classics, avoiding many of the maintenance concerns associated with some earlier and later Jaguars.
