This 1987 Maserati Biturbo Coupe is a rarefied classic Italian sports car that was the show car at the 1986 Sydney Motorshow, with a documented history and periodic maintenance. Under the bonnet is a fuel-injected, twin-turbocharged 2.5-litre V6 engine which develops 151kW (202hp). This power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer of this car currently displays 175,507km. Maserati’s history is dotted with myriad weird and wonderful exotic creations, and the Maserati Biturbo fits squarely within both those descriptors. Featuring novel twin-turbocharged technology (and named for this ground-breaking feat) the Biturbo was introduced in the early 1980s as a two-door, 2+2 coupe with a downsized engine and a luxurious interior. The Biturbo didn’t consume nearly as much fuel as Maserati’s V8 models which were particularly painful to run during an oil shortage. It was introduced to Australia in 1987 in sedan, coupe, or cabriolet specifications, and it quickly earned praise for its speed and sumptuous cabin. Maserati Biturbo models have not traditionally been the easiest Maseratis to run, though well-sorted examples which have seen regular service should prove the most enjoyable to own. This Maserati Biturbo is painted white over a cream and tan leather interior for an all-encompassing iconic 80s experience. The seller notes the car features no major aftermarket modification as the Zender bodykit and Italvolanti steering wheel were factory fitted by Maserati along with a set of 15-inch Maserati wheels featuring body-coloured faces and polished outer rims. The tyres are BF Goodrich Advantage Control.
It comes equipped with a Sanyo CD player head unit. Manufactured in Modena, Italy and delivered new to Australia in late 1987, this Maserati Biturbo was sold by Tony Graziani Maserati in Sydney. It has since passed through five owners, including members of the Maserati Club of NSW. The seller states the vehicle has had much of its maintenance completed by Frank Crott Motors in Parramatta, NSW. Its most recent service was completed earlier this year. According to the seller the car has no mechanical faults and all electrics work as normal. Exterior condition of this Biturbo is presented to a high standard overall, especially given the example’s relative high mileage. The white paintwork displays without evident swirl marking or tarnishing, while minimal body damage is noted on panels. There are a few minor points of scrape damage such as the front right wheel guard, rear left quarter, and a crack in the left side of the rear bumper. Stone chip damage is noted around the side skirts and under the front bumper. This car’s external black plastics have faded. All four wheels display in good condition without noticeable kerb rash.
Inside the cabin this car presents similarly well. It has benefitted from an interior overhaul in the past, and consequently shows unmarked leathers, carpets, and woodgrain trimming. The seats hold a good shape without noticeable creasing or wear, while all electrics function as intended. Some wear and tear is identified at touch points such as the indicator stalks and gear stick. This car will come with all accompanying documentation
