1985 Mercedes-Benz 280CE
Popular pillarless coupe, Australian delivered, Recently spent $12,500 on refurbishment
The Mercedes 280CE was the most expensive car in the entire W123 range. The 280CE utilised Mercedes’ M110/988 engine developing 185 bhp at 5800 rpm, enough to propel it to a top speed in excess of 200 km/h, with decent acceleration to match.
Built on a shorter 2710mm wheelbase, the 280CE offered strong performance from its gutsy six, with typically Germanic build quality and safety, wrapped up in a classically elegant coupe body.
An Australian-delivered car, this 1985 Mercedes-Benz 280CE is well-specced, equipped with period options that include a powered sunroof, Tempomat cruise control (currently not working), central locking, power-adjustable left-side door mirror, auto antenna, front and rear power windows, Behr air-conditioning, and Becker radio/cassette player.
Paintwork remains in decent condition with the usual signs of age in a 40+ year old car. There are some scratches to the external window sill trim on the driver’s door. The Black interior is original and in good condition, except for some sun-related cracking to the dashtop (covered by a dash mat) and wear to the side bolster of the driver’s seat backrest. The seats and doorcards are trimmed in an attractive patterned grey cloth.
This Mercedes coupe has in the last 18 months undergone significant refurbishment work at a cost of $12,500 (receipt available). This work included a new windscreen, new engine and transmission mounts, new brake hoses and a system overhaul, new ball joints, various new seals, repairs to windows and electrical items, among a pro-active list of things done. It was fitted with four new Maxxis whitewall tyres two years ago.
Currently on Club plates, will be sold unregistered.
