A golden opportunity to acquire what is believed to be the only GTM Coupe here in Australia!
This Mini-based British kit car was built in 1985 by its current owner and shipped here in 2005 when we emigrated from the UK. It was on the road in the UK for a few years and then sat in a garage here waiting to be re-registered which finally happened in 2022.
The car has custom fibreglass panels and a steel monocoque chassis. Mini subframes are used both at the front and back with a Mini 1275 engine fitted at the rear to make it a classic mid-engined sports car. The original kit designers were influenced by Ferrari Dino styling at the rear and Porsche 911 for the front! The car has front disc brakes and drums at the rear. It is still possible to obtain parts for this car including all panels, glass, suspension etc.
The car has had new wheels, tyres, seats, carpet and a colour respray to a retro turquoise colour. It runs extremely well and is very economic. It would benefit from some finishing, like headlining internally, and a few tweaks, like any kit car.
After having the car for nearly 40 years, I am ready to hand the reins over to another keen petrol-head who likes tinkering and maintaining this sort of unique project vehicle!
I have all of the original blueprint build drawings, the GTM Build Manual, wiring diagrams, articles as well as the test certificates etc. It is registered until May 2025.
The car is exempt from the Australian Design Rules and the fitment of a compliance plate.
The car has a crack to the front bonnet extending from the fuel filler point. This just needs strengthening from the rear, filling and either a touch up or the application of a double white stripe running from the bonnet down the length of the car.
This little sports car is great fun to drive and is a head-turner for sure!
