1983 Suzuki Hatch 800 SS80V. 4 spd. manual. Kei Car.
Original 796cc F8B 3-cylinder engine. Genuine 91900 km. Original Owner's Manual.
I am the third owner of this Hatch. I bought it in Victoria in late 2020 (79000 km on the clock) and drove it back to SA. I have it fully registered here in SA. Current registration expires 23/06/26.
This was my first dive into classic car ownership.
I've decided to sell, as I've bought a restored Alfa GT Veloce 2000 and a restored Fiat 128 SL Coupe in the last couple of years.
I'm off to the UK in early June and would like the car sold before then.
I have priced the car to sell quickly and have also factored in some of the "points to consider" outlined below / imperfections.
I have enjoyed owning this car; making improvements and driving it regularly. Great for shopping / Bunnings runs etc. Also a nice little beach - side cruiser. Constant comments, interest and smiles from people. I'm keen to see a new owner enjoy and care for the car.
WANTING TO SELL QUICKLY. PRICE POTENTIALLY NEGOTIABLE FOR THE RIGHT BUYER.
The car has been extremely reliable. Starts first time very time. No oil use at all (91000km only). Extremely economical.
No structural rust at all. Drain holes all clear. Sills and bottoms of doors are in very good shape.
The previous owner bought it from the original owner and undertook a light restoration as a COVID lockdown project in 2020. Work completed at this time:
- new tyres
- new clutch
- new timing belt
- new water pump
- new exhaust box
- new brakes lines, discs, pads, shoes, machined rear drums
- new radiator core and manual radiator fan switch fitted
- new distributor, coil, plugs and leads
- new dash ignition wiring
- new side indicator lenses, new tail light lenses
- new door, window & hatch seals
- new seatbelts
- new interior window winder handles
Work completed by me:
- spare ignition / door / hatch / fuel cap key cut 2021
- downloaded Workshop Manual (PDF files on USB included) 2021
- genuine Momo Race 350mm steering wheel and boss fitted 2021 (have original steering wheel and horn)
- window tinting 2021
- new plush headliner 2021
- carpet fitted 2021 (have original rubber floor liner, but it's quite tatty)
- new side mirrors 2021 (have original)
- steering wheel club lock
- new bonnet cable 2023
- Lanotec treatment on underside of car and Cavity Wax Plus in doors, sills, cavities. Last done in April 2024
- Heavy duty Dickies seat covers 2024 (have a couple of sets of covers I have used)
- new (reconditioned) starter motor 2025
- new battery 2025
- new wiper blades 05/26.
Parts are cheap and readily available for the SS80V, both at retailers and online.
POINTS TO CONSIDER:
- left turn indicator doesn't auto return with Momo steering wheel fitted. Works perfectly with original wheel fitted.
- tune up due
- oil and filter change due
- timing belt and water pump due (non-interference motor)
- small transmission fluid leak from one of the driveshaft seals
- clutch cable needs adjusting (functioning fine)
- seats tatty under the seat covers
- heater not working
- one air vent is broken
- the original radio is stuck on 5AA (buttons not working properly)
- rear hatch doesn't lock shut due to slight ding (fixable)
- ignition barrel rotating on start up / turn off, the plastic mount has failed / perished (recent)
- front side indicator mounting rubbers are perished
- exterior plastic windscreen trim is cracked
- superficial rust spots, dings and interesting paint finish in some spots (see photos)
- filled corner ding (1st owner).
I had a big shed clean-out over the summer. In the process I think I accidentally threw out all of the receipts for the work outlined above. I cannot find the folder anywhere. A visual inspection of the car will verify the work that has been done in the last 5 / 6 years.
ENJOY THIS JAPANESE CLASSIC LIKE I HAVE ...
