Its time to sell my dads 450sel 6.9, part of a lifelong MB affiliation for dad and myself. Dad has always had MBs and maintained them regardless of cost. Dad bought his first MB in 1979 (another 116) and we still have this car. This 6.9 we bought from the first owner back around 2007/8 after it had sat unused for some time. What followed was about a 4-5 year restoration from bottom up; engine rebuilt by one of Perths most notable German mechanics including european pistons, an extensive rust repair and repaint (cost was not much less than this listing) with Rowe and Sons in Perth, new leather (GAHH), redid the wood ((D'uva French wood polishers, please note in these pics the sun makes it look faded which is not correct - it is nice and dark as intended), redid the carpet, roof liner, sourced XWX tyres on repainted bundts, and an immense amount of MB genuine parts from the Classic Centre (many body trims no longer available) including things like the chin spoiler. I sourced the emergency suspension blocks (which are almost always missing on these cars). The dash was reskinned and has no cracks. The aircon system was redone and is working well as is the sunroof and windows. Since the engine rebuild, it has done about 20000km in these 15 years. It has not been driven much in the least 2-3 years although dad has maintained its services at a local MB specialist. I know a fair bit about 6.9s in Australia (227 officially imported originally), and I believe this is one of the better cars remaining in Australia. At one point we had 4 of these 6.9s, but now this is the 2nd last (I will keep my own 6.9 of 20 years, the 2nd silver one one in the wedding pic). This car is excellent mechanically and body wise. The only two things not concourse is that it has a simpler Alpine CD player fitted, and the engine bay is black - the engine was rebuilt prior to the body work, and there was too much to pull out with such a motor to repaint the engine bay silver). Dad has now put 2 or so scratches on it to be critical, but these are insignificant when the rest of the car is excellent. I would much prefer it go to an MB enthusiast familiar with pre 90's MBs. We sold our previous 6.9 for a similar price to the asking price, and although I believe this is a better car, I am aware post covid car prices are not the same as what they were. If you would like to discuss the car, please call me, or leave a message if I do not pick up. I am more than happy to send any additional pictures. **We are not interested in being contacted by consignment sellers**
