Matching numbers with a 3.5 Litre V8 motor. It is rare to find such vehicle with original motor and gearbox.
Priced very competitively in the environment of rising values for these early models. A recent copy of Octane Magazine has voted this classic model as highly collectable.
It is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V8, delivering around 97kW / 130bhp to all four wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with high and low range gearing.
The odometer indicates 51,500km, though this is not warranted.
EQUIPMENT
Launched in 1970, the revolutionary Range Rover combined Land Rover’s permanent four-wheel drive system with a spacious and comfortable cabin, saloon-car refinement, a 100mph top speed, and substantial towing capacity.
The ‘Suffix D’ version was fitted with an improved carburettor, cabin lighting, a higher grade of transmission tunnel trim, and a hinged rear number plate mount.
This example has been resprayed in its original shade of Sahara Dust, over a retrimmed interior with brown Ambla vinyl seat trims from UK-based Exmoor Trim, which were fitted by an Australian upholsterer.
The car rides on the correct set of 16-inch steel wheels, shod with Michelin XM+S 244 tyres.
Equipment includes manually operated windows, a four-spoke steering wheel, a Pioneer cassette stereo, air conditioning, an analogue clock, and Smiths gauges on the dashboard.
It also boasts Triplex toughened safety glass, a rear wiper, Lucas rear lights, and Hella H4 headlamps.
CONDITION
Its Sahara Dust paintwork is good condition, having benefitted from a closed-door respray.
There are blemishes on the front end and door hinges, a scuff on the driver’s side sill, and marks on areas of the black window trim.
Inside, there is minor creasing on the reupholstered seats, light discolouration in the driver’s footwell, signs of use of some of the major touchpoints, and the headlining is separating towards the rear of the cabin, though overall the interior presents well. The radio in the car has not been connected and thus does not currently function.
* The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults.
SERVICE HISTORY
* The car was refurbished by TD Automotive in late 2021 at an indicated 51,063 km, when the original exhaust was reconditioned, the carburettors were rebuilt, the electrics were overhauled, and the engine was given a major service.
* On top of this, the car was cosmetically refurbished in 2022 by a Range Rover specialist, who restored the dashboard, and spent considerable time on cosmetic improvements including replacing new (old stock) parts such as the ashtray and gear knobs, and used a specialist upholsterer to fit the UK-imported Exmoor Trim features.
