The HQ Monaro Coupe emerged in July of 1971, featuring a completely new body design
over the First Generation ‘K,T,G’ models. Some notable changes were the larger rear
window, squarer rear quarters and integrated taillights into the rear chrome bumper. The HQ
Monaro was available in Base Model, Monaro LS, GTS and GTS 350. While most Base and
LS models received the 173ci and 202ci engines respectively, the GTS came standard with
the 253ci and could be optioned with the 308ci. The Chevrolet sourced 350ci V8 was
reserved for GTS 350 model lines.
This particular example is a genuine 1973 Holden HQ Monaro GTS sedan that has
undergone an older restoration to bring it back to its former glory. The restoration included new paint in jade green with iconic gloss white twin centre stripes. Rather than opt for the modified ‘pro street’ look, this GTS sedan retains period-correct details such as stainless wheel arch moulds and GTS wheels with chrome wheel trims. All bright work presents very well and compliments the bold yellow exterior beautifully.
The interior presents absolutely stunning fully completed by winners Interiors kit with lots of dash original fiddley bits giving this GTS a 12 out of 10 show car finish inside trim. Standout elements include GTS style steering wheel, ‘fish scale’ finish dash fascia and
full-length centre console with matching ‘fish scale’ finish compartment lid.
This GTS Monaro runs a strong number matching rebuilt 253ci V8 with a fully reconditioned T-Bar automatic transmission.
While this may not be considered particularly powerful by today’s standards, it does offer the period correct original GMH factory finish
