In excellent condition sporting it's factory colour Fjord blue paint, this previous BMW Car Club Victoria Show and Shine winner has been taken care of by enthusiast owners., A ‘dry weather only’, fun, club/weekend car with the same owner for over 20 years and is easily one of the best examples in Australia. – Tight, no rattles, comfortable, heaps of torque and a great exhaust note.
The body is un-modified and is fitted with desirable factory option sunroof. The Fjord blue metallic paint presents in very nice overall condition with only minor imperfections you’d expect from an older respray.
Mechanically, the engine was given a full rebuild less than 2000kms ago by Brent May / Dee Bee Engines - Engine work included
- All engine hardware was repaired and zinc plated
- All new bearings, OE where possible
- Engine block was hot-tanked, crack-tested, honed and bored to suit supplied parts
- New pistons with correct Tii-spec dome to suit E12 head
- File-to-fit piston rings supplied locally by Trevor at Pacific Engine Parts
- All new gaskets, seals, valve stem seals, timing chain
- New Tii water pump
- Cylinder head machined as necessary.
- Original camshaft ground by Clive Cams based on a Schrick 284 profile
- Crank polished and balanced
- New distributor condenser, spark plugs, ignition leads etc
Other more recent work includes new Sachs clutch throwout bearing and rebuilt and balanced tail shaft with new uni joints.
The car is fitted with a 4-speed manual gearbox (quiet). The radiator is re-cored with two cores and the battery recently replaced. The engine bay still retains its original paint and factory stickers - irreplaceable patina.
The interior presents in very nice, clean condition with replaced headliner, uncut door cards, reskinned and crack free dashboard (plus tii clock), rare Scheel period seats and super rare vintage (not to be confused with newer) Momo Prototipo steering wheel. In the console are a Becker Mexico (for display) and VDO gauges to keep an eye on things. A brand new set of 2002carpets floor mats are fitted (both in cabin and in the boot).
Exterior trim is in excellent shape and shines bright. The original Australian-spec bumper over-riders have been replaced with the much cleaner looking European market versions. Four period-correct Marchal fog/driving lights are mounted up front.
Suspension wise the car has the perfect stance on Koni shock absorbers, lowered Eibach springs and Selby sway bars.
The original 2002tii braking system has been given a recent refresh where needed, including reconditioned brake boosters and master cylinder. The callipers were also rebuilt at an earlier time and have <5000 kms on them.
Wheels are period correct, restored Cosmic’s shod in (also period correct) Pirelli Cinturato CN36 tyres.
A bundle of receipts covering 30 years will accompany the factory owners manual. The car is on a non-transferable club permit.
