Launched in 1966, inspired by the 1961 Spider Speciale Aerodinamica concept, the 105-series Alfa Romeo Spider was the last design attributed to Battista Pininfarina himself. Originally produced with the famous Boat-Tail, or Cuttlefish Bone shape, 1969 saw the introduction of this second generation Kamm-Tail, or "Coda Tronca" design.
Masterfully blending the low, pointed nose with its famous Alfa grille and the scalloped sides into the new square-tail design, this generation of Spider retains the faired-in headlights and small bumpers of the original, but introduced larger, more powerful engines for a sports car which is liveable as well as exciting and evocative.
Powered by the famous Nord Twin-cam four cylinder engines, the Alfa Spider was an upmarket and expensive choice, priced well above many British roadsters of the time, and with build and engineering quality to match. Offering a rare five-speed gearbox, a rev-happy, characterful engine and a beautifully balanced chassis, the Alfa was modern at the time, and is a pleasure to drive today.
Everything feels tight and fresh, the chassis feels stiff, the suspension is compliant and the steering is exceptionally light for an unassisted system. It’s a pleasure to shift through the gears and work the engine a little harder, and you’re rewarded with a glorious sound and a feeling of living your best life.
These early Spiders make for a wonderful classic to live with as they have maximum Italian Riviera charm, but are so useable and don’t break the bank to look after.
We are excited to bring to market this Australian delivered and beautifully restored Spider which has been refinished in its original colour combination of Bianco with Amaranto interior, a very rare combination.
The paint is like glass, the vinyl is factory fresh and the hood is brand new and it has the most stunning engine bay, with everything correctly finished.
With receipts totalling over $40,000 in maintenance, parts and restoration work, this car presents virtually as new and is ready for a new owner to enjoy days out with the top down.
This must surely be one of the very best Alfa Romeo Spiders left in the world, in a rare and tasteful colour combination and ready to enjoy.
