This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 is finished in a very popular colour “Horizon Blue” Mercedes colour code 304. beige interior and is powered by a 3.5-litre V8 paired with a floor shift automatic transmission and 14″ steel wheels. This is an Australian delivered car with matching numbers & includes a copy of the data card. Amenities include air conditioning and a Becker radio and functional sunroof. The dash and associated woodwork, upholstery, and interior as shown in the gallery. The Becker radio is fully functional. Mechanically this car is in superb condition. With all major wear items such as brakes, cooling hoses replaced in recent years, this is a car with very little to spend. Paint and body work is as good as you will find in a car of this age, with no rust and only small paint imperfections. Due to the age of the vehicle car will be offered without RWC. However, when I re-registered the car on Club plates a few years ago RWC was passed with lots of work that needed attending to including brakes, power steering etc. Since then, I have run under 300 kms. Due to lack of use I am selling this car with hesitation. Currently on club plates, sold unregistered.
About the model.
The W108/109 S-Class saloon was the pinnacle of luxury car design from the time of its introduction in 1965, featuring stylish, a roomy and beautifully appointed interior and was powered by a range of six-cylinder engines. Demand from the American market for more power saw the introduction in 1970 of a V8 model with the new M116 3.5-litre engine featuring a single-overhead camshaft per bank, Bosch fuel injection and a healthy 200bhp on tap. In the best tradition of Stuttgart's finest, the S-Class boasted state of the art safety equipment, road holding and luxury features and was built to the highest standards. Offering effortless performance, the 280 SE 3.5 was usually equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission using a fluid flywheel, but a small number were sold with the four-speed manual. In production for just two full years, the 280 SE 3.5 was built in limited numbers and just 11,309 were built in total - the vast majority of these going to North America, surviving examples are few and far between in Australia.
