INTRODUCTION A rare and highly collectible example of one of the most iconic American muscle cars ever produced, this 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 represents a true piece of motorsport history with a rare opportunity to acquire a documented and beautifully restored example of one of the most legendary Mustangs ever produced. Produced in extremely limited numbers to homologate Ford’s new 429 cubic-inch V8 for NASCAR competition, the Boss 429 quickly became one of the most sought-after Mustangs ever built. Just 1,359 examples were produced in total, with 859 built in 1969 and 499 in 1970, each assembled and modified by Kar Kraft and assigned a unique NASCAR identification number beginning with "KK". This particular car, KK 1736, is listed in the official Boss 429 Registry and was previously featured in Mustang Illustrated in April 1991. Power comes from the matching-numbers 429 cubic-inch (7.0-litre) ‘T-Code’ big-block V8, producing approximately 280kW (375bhp) and 610Nm of torque. The engine was too big to fit in a normal mustang engine bay so they had to modify all of them by hand. In 2010, the car underwent a comprehensive ground-up restoration, with respected Mustang Club of America judge Bill Fioretti, of Mostly Mustangs. Prior to the restoration, the vehicle was inspected by noted specialist Ed Meyer, who reportedly praised its condition and originality. Following its restoration, the car appeared on the 2010 NAPA Muscle Car calendar cover and has since been regularly invited to prestigious concours and Shelby-related events. VEHICLE HIGHLIGHTS This 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 represents one of the most significant homologation-era muscle cars ever produced. Finished in iconic Candy Apple Red over Black, this example is listed in the Boss 429 Registry as KK 1736 and retains its matching-numbers 429 cubic inch ‘T-Code’ big-block V8. ?Subject to a comprehensive ground-up restoration in 2010 by Mostly Mustangs under the supervision of MCA Judge Bill Fioretti, the car presents today in exceptional condition. The restoration included a rebuild of the original engine and remains supported by extensive documentation. Most recently serviced in November 2024, this Boss 429 offers both concours-level provenance and mechanical integrity. ?A WORD FROM THE OWNER "I was on the hunt for 5 years for the pinnacle mustang - a 69 Boss 429. I was pedantic on wanting it as close to factory original as possible. I found this car on consignment at a dealer in Dallas TX whilst I was living in the US. After speaking to many experts on the boss302 forum, the car came back as the real deal, a very original, numbers matching example. The amount of literature, books, and photos of the restoration process put me at ease to purchase the vehicle. I inspected the car in person and it was the one! After some back and forth we came to an agreement and the car was mine. I kept it in the US until I transitioned back to Australia full time. I imported the car in 2016 and it has been in my collection since. The car has sat in a private fully air controlled warehouse in Melbourne since its arrival. Maintenance wise the car was driven minimally, circa 1-200 miles per year. Servicing has been kept up to date with the car having a full overhaul in late 2024. The car was started fortnightly and lived on a battery tender. I have made no changes to the car to keep it in numbers matching factory original spec." • Odometer: 52,201 miles (indicated) • Engine: 429ci (7.0L) ‘T-Code’ Big-Block V8 (375 bhp / 610 Nm) • Transmission: 4-Speed Manual • Drive: Rear-Wheel Drive • Exterior Colour: Candy Apple Red • Interior Colour: Black • Driving Position: LHD • VIN: 9F02Z187771 OPTIONS & EQUIPMENT • 3.91 Rear Axle With Traction-Lock Limited-Slip Differential • Power Steering • Power Front Disc Brakes • Philco AM Radio • Three-Spoke Wood-Trimmed Steering Wheel • Rear Sway Bar • Boot-Mounted Battery Relocation • 15-Inch Black & Chrome Styled Steel Wheels • Goodyear Polyglas GT Tyres • Functional Bonnet Scoop • Front Spoiler • Boss 429 Fender Decals SERVICING & MAINTENANCE • Ground-up restoration completed 2010 – Mostly Mustangs (Bill Fioretti – MCA Judge) • Matching-numbers 429 rebuilt during restoration • Most recent full service reportedly completed November 2024 DOCUMENTATION INCLUDES • Boss 429 Registry Listing – KK 1736 • Kar Kraft Identification Number – KK 1736 • Matching-Numbers 429ci ‘T-Code’ Confirmation • Lois Eminger Factory Invoice Report • Restoration Documentation (2010 – Mostly Mustangs) • Pre-Restoration Inspection by Specialist Ed Meyer • Mustang Illustrated Magazine Feature – April 1991 • 2010 NAPA Muscle Car Calendar Cover Feature • Owner’s Manuals • Copy of NAPA Muscle Car Calendar • Original Autolite Battery • Spare Steering Wheel • Spare Wheel & Jack MODEL HISTORY Developed during the peak of the American muscle car arms race, the 1969 Boss 429 was engineered as a homologation special to allow Ford’s new 429 cubic inch semi-hemispherical V8 to compete in NASCAR. To accommodate the massive engine, completed Mustangs were sent to Kar Kraft for structural modifications, including relocated suspension components and trunk-mounted battery placement. Officially rated at 375 horsepower, the Boss 429 was widely understood to produce significantly more. With forged internals, aluminum cylinder heads, and competition-focused engineering, it remains one of the most technically advanced muscle cars of its era. Today, the Boss 429 is recognised as a cornerstone of serious American car collections, a homologation icon comparable to Europe’s most celebrated racing-derived road cars. FINAL SUMMARY The 1969 Boss 429 stands as one of the rarest and most important Mustangs ever produced, created solely to homologate Ford’s semi-hemi 429 engine for NASCAR competition. With only 859 examples produced for 1969, its significance in American performance history cannot be overstated. This example, finished in Candy Apple Red and listed in the official registry as KK 1736, benefits from a comprehensive, documented restoration and retains its matching-numbers drivetrain. With magazine features, factory invoice documentation, and specialist oversight throughout its restoration, it represents a blue-chip, investment-grade muscle car, equally suited to concours display or curated collection placement.
