Daimler V8 250
First registered on the 28/10/1969 with registration number KKL949 and driven by a lady owner until 1981 when the car had a transmission problem which apparently was too expensive to fix, so the car remained stored away for 30 plus years. The car was the 57th last V8-250 produced.
The car was then bought by the second owner in 2012, who unfortunately could not get it running due to health issues. The gearbox was replaced with a similar Borg Warner box, however the rest of the car needed a full recommission (the original gearbox is available, complete with the tag). The current owner bought the car in 2020 and commenced a 2 year restoration, lovingly restoring the car to former glory.
To begin with, the car was solid with no rust at all except for a small patch in the spare wheel well which was repaired. The undercarriage received a thorough clean up and stone-chip was re-applied. The first stage comprised of a full mechanical recommission. The brakes were fully rebuilt, then the fuel system from tank to the carburetors received a full rebuild, including a new electronic SU fuel pump. The tank received a full restoration with internal rust treatment and protective coating. The suspension was completely stripped and rebuilt with new bushes and ball joints, with components being sand blasted and painted in heavy duty industrial paint. The power steering received a similar rebuild, with the pump and steering box being stripped and rebuilt whilst the tie rod ends etc were replaced – everything including steering column bushes have been replaced. The speedometer and rev counter were serviced and the clock repaired. The interior lights and dashboard lights were upgraded to a period-look LED kit which benefits the wiring loom and reduces heat. The radiator has been upgraded with an alloy one with an electric fan, addressing the common overheating issues associated with Jaguar MK11 and Daimler V8-250 (this is the only modification to the car). The car starts on the button and has done many long distance runs since restoration and runs very smoothly. Though the engine purrs beautifully, the owner suggests it could do with a refresh to optimize performance. The car rolls on a brand new set of Nankang Classic tyres with a white strip (including spare tyre)
The next stage of the restoration comprised of a full respray in the original colour – Sable, new headlining and carpets including boot mat, sourced from Aldridge Trimming UK. The door-cards and woodwork have been refurbished and are in excellent condition. New Furflex, door and windscreen beadings along with a new windscreen have been installed. The seat leathers need to be restored as they are faded and ripped in a few places.
The car comes equipped with factory power steering, heated rear windscreen, heater/blower and other features such as brake fluid level warning lights, all of which are in perfect working order.
Overall, the car is in excellent condition as a result of the hundreds of hours of restoration it has received, with attention to detail ensuring it retains factory originality.
