Offered for sale here is a rare and original (albeit slight custom) 1968 Short Wheel Base Porsche 912 Targa. This is the earliest original Porsche Targa currently (and rarely offered) for sale in Oz.
Whilst I don't profess that this car is perfect, I do believe this is an honest car and in great overall condition; the pan is solid and body shows no history of collision or significant rust which is quite rare given its lifespan of 55 years especially for an early short wheel base Targa.
The wheels are original (expensive!) 'forged' lightweight deep 6 Fuchs with performance Bridgestone Potenza tyres all around. The lovely gearbox is the original Kardex numbers matching 901 5 speed and equipped with a super reliable, significantly lighter and more powerful 4 cylinder 'worked' 2180cc VW Type1 engine. Also installed are a pair of very rare period correct, original lightweight Recaro racing seats. These were factory installed in Le Mans racing Porsches 'back in the day'. The Recaro seats are exceptionally comfortable (unless you're on the 'big' side) and very expensive! (refer ad sample). Amazingly, the correct 1968 seatbelts valued at 1.5K US alone are all still in the car with updated new and safer webbing.
The investment potential of the 'short wheel base' Targa is immense and the original LHD configuration means you have the rest of the world market to consider come selling time (Refer Bloomberg article-https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-10-16/why-you-should-invest-in-a-60s-era-porsche-911-targa-right-now
Porsche transitioned to the 'long wheel base' body change in 1969 thereby changing the aesthetics of the car.

A driving, complete and non rusty short wheel base pre 1969 Targa are rarely offered for sale and has had a steady increase in value due to their rarity.
Enclosed photos shows the Targa's original colour as per original Kardex- Burgundrot/Burgundy Red 6808 (one of the rarest colour available). Car is on non transferable club registration, roadworthy was done just a few weeks ago too! All valid import approval documentation will be provided upon purchase.

I am in no hurry nor am I desperate to sell this exquisite vehicle that has continued to escalate in value in my approx. 7 years of ownership. The vehicle is located Bayside of Melbourne for viewing. I am not interested in a swap for any vehicle. Also worth noting, this Targa retains all the factory Porsche engine mounts should you wish to reinstate an original Porsche 'Flat6' engine. It is therefore a straightforward 'bolt-in' affair. 'NO WELDING OR MODIFICATIONS REQUIRED' including the existing gearbox which will work with the flat 6! Lastly, I have a complete, excellent 3.2 Carrera motor 'I would/might' consider selling with this car (expensive!) currently in my storage in LA. My years of passion and interest in classic cars has come to an end, a new interest has ensued; a new Custodian is therefore sought...
Thank you.
