Daimler was the oldest of all British car marques, being founded in 1896, and supplied cars to the richest and mightiest, including notably the Royal Family. When the firm was taken over by Jaguar Cars in 1960, the decision was made to make a Daimler version of the successful sports saloon and fit it with Daimler’s own 2 1/2 litre V8 as fitted to their SP250 roadster. It remains a great combination and offers an attractive and posher alternative to the Jaguar six cylinder cars.
They don’t come much more attractive or posh than the example we have on offer here. Benefitting from a thirty year restoration - yes, really - it might be the best in the country. It’s been repainted and retrimmed. Its engine, gearbox, differential, suspension and brakes have been rebuilt. It’s been fitted with some lovely chrome wire wheels with Daimler spinners. The level of detail is extraordinary and it has been documented for posterity. The car has travelled less than 2,000 miles since the restoration was completed around five years ago. To achieve this level of restoration professionally today you should expect to pay twice what this car is on offer for.
Accompanying the car is a Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirming that this ‘matching numbers’ example was supplied new to Brysons, Sydney, and delivered by Bryson Industries Limited, Melbourne to a Mr Petherbridge, Managing Director of Sidchrome Australia. He retired to Noosa and took the car with 1989 the car was sold to its second owner, who commenced an epic thirty year restoration that he sadly did not live to see. In 2019, the car passed to its third owner, who finished the job including a complete trim kit in the original beige colour featuring Connolly leather for the upholstery and Wilton wool carpets sourced from a specialist UK trimmer. It has now had one further owner making a total of four owners in 58 years.
The original literature pack, a workshop manual and parts manual are included. A comprehensive record of the restoration, in receipts and photographs, is supplied also. The car is supplied with two steering wheels - a wood rim Mota Lita sports wheel and an original Daimler-badged wheel.
