Concours and show-winning 1962 Kombi
After an 18-year love affair with my 1962 Kombi, it is time to let another owner enjoy its company.
It was in original condition when I found it and was initially restored for business purposes. In 2018, it went into the paint shop for a full strip-down, bare-shell restoration. Any rust-affected areas were cut out, new metal was welded in, and the body was rust-proofed from top to bottom.
After 12 months, it was transported back to the workshop, where a new 1700cc engine was fitted and the gearbox was overhauled. New engine mounts, suspension, steering arms, steering box, brakes and other mechanical components were also replaced.
It was then transported to my garage, where I rewired it myself — I am an auto electrician by trade — and converted it to 12 volt. I replaced the glass, rubbers, lights and, essentially, everything else required. The Kombi also comes with the original handbook and certificate of registration.
To date, it is the only Kombi to have been displayed at Noosa Concours. It has also won Best in Show in Noosa.
The car drives like new and happily sits on 100 km/h on the freeway. Whoever buys it will love driving it — it turns heads everywhere it goes.
