As a 16 year old entranced at first glance the owner of this Austin Healey said to himself right then and there that one day he would own one. But it was not until nearly 50 years of age that the right car materialised across and a decades long dream was fulfilled.
Taken home and stripped down to the chassis and rebuilt and 15 months later transformed into the most superb touring sports car one has ever driven. Professionally painted British Racing Green in Eden NSW and interior trimming done by Gary Blackman in Melbourne. Visually stunning the superb lines of the body panels are matched only by the minimalism of the dashboard lay out, beautifully upholstered seats and convertible soft top hood in excellent condition
Historically there is not a great deal known prior to current ownership. What is known is the car was originally painted Healey Blue when it arrived in Australia as an import from San Francisco.
In good condition for its age and ready to be enjoyed by its next owner these cars were literally street legal versions of “formula one” race cars from the era. Weather you’re zipping around the city or touring the country side you’ll be smiling behind the wheel all the way home.
Powered by the robust and charismatic 2.6-litre inline six-cylinder engine, the BN6 delivers a driving experience that is both raw and refined, with a deep, unmistakable exhaust note that only a big Healey can produce. Paired with a manual gearbox it offers effortless touring ability combined with engaging performance. What makes the BN6 particularly special is its global story. It was the only “Big Healey” model produced in completely knocked-down (CKD) form, allowing assembly in various parts of the world—adding a layer of rarity and provenance that collectors truly appreciate today.
